Skin peels help to polish the skin through a chemical exfoliating effect. These acids assist in breaking down the intercellular glue that binds the skin together, to boost skin exfoliation and stimulate fresh cell growth. Exfoliating helps to resurface the skin, improve rough and lacklustre skin texture and pigment, minimise pore size and invigorate the skin to leave it glowing.*
The Procedure
After your skin is analysed to determine the strength of peeling necessary, your skin is cleansed and prepped for optimum peel penetration. A mild to moderate tingling sensation can be expected as the peel is applied to the skin. Peeling is recommended every 4 weeks, and can be done in conjunction with Microdermabrasion and Epiblading.*
Recovery from Skin Peels
At Silkwood Medical we have a variety of peels that we can customise depending on your skin concern. Depending on the strength of the peel, the skin may appear slightly flushed or even a dull red colour. This should subside shortly after the treatment has finished. The skin may appear tight for several days after, and any discolouration may temporarily darken before flaking away.*
Frequently Asked Questions
While superficial peels can be used on darker skin types, less aggressive treatments are advised to reduce the risks of hyperpigmentation.
Mild peels usually don’t require any downtime.
Medium peel may require 3 – 5 days downtime
Stronger peels require approximately 7 – 10 days downtime
We recommend using our Vitamin B Boost serum immediately after. This helps to repair the skin’s barrier and aid in faster healing.
Avoid Retin A, Retinoids, AHA’s and BHA’s for 5 days post peel as these have an exfoliating effect.
Wear sunblock. You’re exposing vulnerable immature cells so you must make sure they don’t get damaged from UV rays. Apply sunscreen daily on the face and neck and limit your time outdoors to reduce sun exposure.
Use a skin lightener. Since chemical peels can stimulate melanin activity, you don’t want to end up with post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, a condition where you can develop brown spots post-peel (common in skin that already struggles with discoloration/brown spots). Our Vitamin C serum and brightening serum works beautifully for preventing and lightening discoloration.
If you are prone to cold sores it is best to take anti-virals prior to treatment.
