Microneedling, also known as, Collagen Induction therapy (CIT) is a vibrational stamping device.  It uses very fine needles to increase skin stimulation, and effectively target fine lines, wrinkles, and scarring. Through vertical penetration, infusion channels are created into the skin to instantly hydrate with hyaluronic acid skin stimulating ingredients. Hyaluronic acid can hold up to 1000 times its weight in water making it a great serum to infuse into the skin. CIT, unlike heat based technologies, does not cause excessive heat or skin coagulation thus, the side effects are dramatically reduced and the risk almost zero.*

The Procedure

The skin is cleansed and sterilised. Generally the skin will need to be numbed to ensure your comfort. The tip will glide over your skin creating stimulating channels and an even flushing is the best indication for a perfect medical treatment. The treatment usually takes around 1.5 hours in total*

A microtrauma is created which stimulates the skin to degrade old collagen and increase production of new collagen therefore, plumping up the skin by minimising the signs of ageing. It improves the thickness of the dermis as well as the epidermis. This in return improves the skin texture and reduces wrinkles. It also has a positive effect on hyper-pigmentation as well as on hypo-pigmentation. Microneedling helps reduce scars & acne scars by stimulating new collagen fibres and improving blood supply.

Recovery From Microneedling

The inflammatory reaction of the skin is extremely short-lived and fades significantly within hours from redness to pinkness that may last from 12 to 24 hours. A cooling mask is applied immediately following the treatment. This is rich in healing minerals and hyaluronic acid to soothe and calm the skin.*

Frequently Asked Questions

Microneedling is treatment utilsing an electronic device with very fine needles. The medical device we use in micro needling helps to break down old scar tissue and to stimulate new skin cell growth. This cell multiplication results in the formation of new tissue layers of elastin and collagen fibres as well as in new capillaries for an improved blood supply.
Microneedling treatments are suitable for all skin types including darker and Asian skin. Microneedling does not use heat (unlike lasers) so it is less likely to cause post inflammatory hyperpigmentation. If you have skin concerns such as pigmentation issues, redness, acne, capillaries, acne scarring, fine lines, crepey skin, enlarged pores or ageing skin in general, Microneedling may be a good option for you.
Microneedling can be used on any skin part of the face and body.
Anytime, as it is suitable for all skin types with very little to no downtime.
There are a few things to keep in mind when considering Microneedling. Bruising can be minimised by avoiding blood thinners including aspirin and anti-inflammatories such as ibruprofen. Fish oils help to thin you blood but will also decrease the body’s ability to coagulate blood. As blood spotting is a normal part of the procedure it is best to avoid any blood thinners including herbal supplements for a week prior to treatment (with Doctor’s approval).

Retin A or any other Vitamin A derivatives should also be avoided for a week prior to allow the skin to rebuild. Other factors such as lasers and chemical peels should be avoided for a few weeks before and after your treatment.  For a full list of do’s and don’ts it is best to have a consultation with our Dermal Clinician prior to booking in for your treatment.

The Microneedling treatment takes approximately 90 minutes and costs $500 which includes a hyaluronic mask and a new sterile tip for every treatment.
The skin will generally need to be numbed to ensure your comfort, thereafter the treatment is painless.
A numbing cream is generally applied to the face so there is no need for any pain medication.
The inflammatory reaction of the skin after the Microneedling treatment is extremely short and fades significantly within hours from red to pink, this usually lasts for up to 24 hours. In order to reduce visible redness, we recommend healing minerals, peptides and hyaluronic acid after the procedure.

Use a gentle cleanser without AHAs/BHAs and avoid Retinol and retinoid based products for 5 days. Do not exfoliate or use products containing AHA’s/BHA’s for 5 days post treatment.

Avoid UV exposure and wear SPF 30+. If you have a history of cold sores, antivirals are recommended.

For Collagen Induction Therapy we recommend to start with 3 treatments with a minimum separation time of 4 weeks in between. For Scar Reduction Therapy approximately 3 to 5 treatments are recommended, with an improvement of 70-80%. Unlike ablative procedures for facial skin only, Micro-needling can be used on all skin parts of the body (neck, décolleté, arms, legs, etc).
