Microdermabrasion is a non-surgical in-office procedure that uses a diamond tip to exfoliate the outer layers of the skin and remove dead skin cells, whilst aiding in stimulating collagen through a light suction. Microdermabrasion is an effective treatment for revitalising the skin, eliminating dry skin, refining pores and improving skin discolouration and scarring.
Microdermabrasion is a fast, non-invasive, virtually painless procedure with minimal discomfort. The treatment can take as little as half an hour and requires no topical anaesthesia. During the treatment, the diamond head is passed over the skin in multiple directions, to cover all over the treatment area. It can be done as regularly as once a week, but is recommended monthly for optimum results.
Recovery from Microdermabrasion
Microdermabrasion requires practically no downtime. The skin may be left slightly flushed, which will subside shortly after the treatment. If combined with skin peels, the skin may take slightly longer to recover. The skin will instantly become smoother and cleaner following one treatment.
Frequently Asked Questions
Microdermabrasion is an effective, non-surgical way to improve acne scars, fine wrinkles and sunspots by exfoliating the top layers of the skin. Micro crystals gently sandblast your skin, leaving it smoother and fresher. Microdermabrasion also stimulates your collagen production, helping your skin rejuvenate.
Microdermabrasion is suitable for most skins types and colours. It is not recommended for active acne, or anyone with increased sensitivity or skin conditions such as eczema or psoriasis. It is also best to avoid if you currently have a cold sore. If your goal is to improve superficial acne scars, blotchy skin, large pores, age or sun spots, fine wrinkles or uneven skin tone and texture, then you are a perfect candidate for microdermabrasion.
You can treat the face, neck and chest.
Microdermabrasion can be done at anytime of year as there is no downtime with this procedure. A few patients notice their skin feeling slightly tight immediately following the treatment, almost as if the skin has been slightly sunburned. You may experience slight dryness and redness of the skin for the remainder of the day. A moisturiser will be applied after the treatment and it is advised to avoid wearing makeup for the rest of the day.
There is no preparation required prior to having microdermabrasion
The skin is washed to remove excess oil and dirt. Then the microdermabrasion procedure starts using a hand held device. Micro crystals flow through a small tube pressed against the skin. The tube also vacuums back dead skin cells and used micro crystals. This promotes the growth of collagen and new, rejuvenated skin. Moisturisers and sun block are then applied to the treated area.
A microdermbrasion treatment costs $150, depending on the areas treated. For best results, more than one microdermabrasion session is required. For our special package pricing please speak to our Dermal Clinician.
Microdermabrasion is completely painless. Some patients report some mild itchiness or stinging when the diamond tip comes in contact with their skin. You may feel some discomfort/sensitivity around the eyes.
No medication is required as it is a painless procedure.
None! This is why it is often referred to as the lunch time peel. You are able to return to your normal routine and apply makeup if you wish.
During the first 24 hours your skin may feel dry and red similar to a mild wind or sunburn. Use liberal amounts of moisturiser for the first few days. Avoid sun exposure for at least a week after the treatment and don’t use any peeling products for the next 3-4 days.
You will see results after just one treatment, however we recommend regular monthly treatments to keep your skin looking its best.
