Breast surgery for men is commonly performed to treat a condition called gynaecomastia. This condition exists when there is an excessive amount of breast tissue under the nipple. This may take the form of a lump that only you can feel to a fully formed breast that is visible. Breast tissue in men is normal and usually prominent around puberty. When it persists beyond puberty it may cause concern, discomfort and social embarrassment and are the main reasons treatment is sought.
