There are many treatments available that can improve the health and beauty of your skin. At our Sydney practice, quality laser hair removal, sclerotherapy, and various skincare treatments, are administered by a highly-qualified expert to help you achieve youthful and radiant skin. Some of our treatments are particularly beneficial when performed before and/or after cosmetic surgery treatments. Skincare treatments such as beauty therapy and lymphatic drainage can help with the healing process after facelift surgery , eyelid surgery, liposuction and other cosmetic surgery procedures.
Many of us would like to permanently remove unwanted hair from our bodies. Unfortunately, complete and permanent removal is not yet possible, but with the advanced technology available, laser hair removal can be an effective long-term solution to shaving, waxing, plucking, and electrolysis. The treatment is suitable for all skin and hair types, including white and grey hair.
Intense Pulse Light (IPL) technology such as the elōs® IPL system is based on the same principle as laser, but instead emits a broad spectrum of pulsed light to target the hair follicle. This disables the follicle from growing hair, which means that over several treatments, there is a long-term reduction in the amount of hair in that area. You can achieve satisfactory results after six to eight laser hair removal treatments. However, individual results can vary depending on medical and genetic factors. Light-coloured hair may require more treatments than dark-coloured hair.
After laser hair removal, you may experience short-term side effects such as mild reddening of the skin. You should be able to return to normal activities immediately after treatment. Makeup can be applied to facial treatment areas immediately as long as no skin is broken. After an IPL treatment, it is important to avoid sun exposure.
Sclerotherapy can reduce or remove unsightly spider veins which develop on the legs. Spider veins tend to be a red or bluish colour and the problem is often hereditary and more common in women than men. You can help minimise the development of spider veins with regular exercise, weight control and by avoiding high heels. Sclerotherapy is not a treatment for true varicose veins, which generally require surgical management.
Sclerotherapy involves the injection of a sclerosant solution directly into the vessel to be treated. The vessel reacts to the fluid by constricting and eventually shutting down. With time the vessels fade and gradually become invisible. Treatment sessions usually last from 15 to 30 minutes. Improvement is noticeable from the first treatment. However, depending on the prominence and number of vessels treated, several sessions three to four weeks apart may be required.
There is minimal pain involved, but you may experience bruising and swelling from the procedure. You should not need to wear supportive stockings after treatments and may return to work immediately. It is important to walk afterwards to prevent the development of blood clots.
Cosmetic surgery and skincare therapy go hand in hand. Skincare therapy is critical in helping you prepare for surgery and heal during recovery, maximising surgical results. Treatments available after an initial skin analysis include facial treatments, FotoFacial™ IPL, chemical peels, microdermabrasion and camouflage mineral makeup. These treatments can also be combined with Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) therapy.
Paramedical aestheticians are available to assist you before and after surgery. Going into surgery with healthy skin has been proven to aid the results and reduce healing time, especially for facial surgery. Preparing the skin for surgery with the right skincare products is an integral part of cosmetic care. Postoperative skincare treatments can help minimise swelling and bruising. Massage following liposuction assists in breaking down scar tissue and increasing circulation, promoting a faster recovery and smoother results.
There is little or no downtime or recovery process associated with skincare therapies. In fact, the relaxation that results from a facial treatment during the immediate postoperative period has been shown to speed the recovery process and help the skin and body heal.
While we can’t completely stop the ageing process, protecting skin from environmental hazards and using effective professional treatments can help slow it down. Professional facial treatments can repair the effects of ageing and slow down the process. All the products used at Silkwood are cosmeceuticals. These are high-quality skincare products that contain high levels of active ingredients and offer outstanding skincare performance.
The first step to introducing professional facial treatments is to thoroughly analyse your skin and then formulate an individually targeted program. The therapist will carefully assess your skin and advise you on your personal skincare requirements. An ideal program combines the use of both facial treatments and cosmeceutical home care products to ensure the best possible result for your skin.
There is little or no downtime associated with professional facial treatments. All of our treatments and products deliver powerful antioxidant, vitamin, and nutrient therapy into the skin while exfoliating and treating concerns with minimal inflammation.
One of the main functions of the skin is to protect us from the environment. The skin is highly effective in providing a barrier to the entry of external compounds. This barrier is provided mainly through lipids (oils) between cells in the surface layer of the skin, the stratum corneum. Lipids are impermeable to compounds containing molecular charges. In many cases only a fraction of the ingredients we apply enters the skin. Application of ultrasound waves at 25KHz (25,000 cycles per second) has been shown to increase penetration of ingredients up to several thousandfold.
Low frequency sonophoresis at 25KHz can increase the penetration of Vitamins A and C as an individual treatment or enhance the effects of skincare treatments such as light chemical peels and microdermabrasion. Applying these vitamins can lighten skin discolouration and plump up the dermal layer with new collagen as well as fill out wrinkles and firm the skin.
There is no downtime or recovery process associated with vitamin infusion therapy.
Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) is a hands-on, therapeutic method of stimulating the movement of fluid in your body's tissues by gently massaging the lymphatic system. MLD stimulates blood flow and assists your lymphatic system to eliminate toxins and waste from the body, which harnesses the body's healing powers. This skincare treatment is often used after a cosmetic procedure, such as liposuction, because getting the lymph fluid moving helps the healing process and recovery. MLD may also minimise scar tissue, bruising, swelling, inflammation and loss of mobility. It can be used for the treatment of acne as it helps your body remove toxins and minimise lymph blockages.
MLD is relaxing and totally pain free. Practitioners aim to unblock the flow of lymph and speed up the lymphatic process by moving the lymph around the body. If the transportation process occurs quickly, your body will recover faster. A treatment session takes from one to two hours.
There is no downtime or recovery process associated with MLD. Instead, it actually helps to break down scar tissue and increase circulation, which promotes a quicker recovery from surgery.
Cosmetic tattooing, or micropigmentation, is permanent makeup that can improve your appearance and enhance your natural features. It can be as subtle or as dramatic as you desire. Although the process is permanent, colour can be modified or changed according to personal taste or fashion, or to touch up faded areas. Cosmetic tattooing is ideal if you lead an active lifestyle or find it difficult to apply your own makeup. Parts of the face that are commonly tattooed to emphasise natural features are the eyebrows, eyeliner, lip liner, the lips, and the cheeks.
Cosmetic tattooing involves placing natural colour pigments just below the dermis of your skin. A skilled practitioner uses a hand-held implanter to regulate the depth of the pigment deposit. This advanced technique is medically proven and safe. Treatment time will depend on what you are having done. Because the treatment can be painful, local and topical anaesthetics may be used.
You may experience some swelling and tenderness for a few days. In most cases, you will not need to take time off work. Even though the process is permanent, colour can be modified or changed. The results will last for many years and any faded areas can be touched up.
