I was a dope when I was younger. From primary school onward, I played countless hours of cricket, golf and tennis in polo-style shirts and no sunscreen. By my mid-twenties, I had a year round, V-shaped patch of mottled redness sitting under my throat.

Did it bother me? Sure. It was a symbol of premature ageing and knuckleheadedness that I’d have to put up with for the rest of my days. Or would I?
